Default [Q] Color Accuracy on the Galaxy Nexus

Ok so I'm a photographer and there's two things I want in my next phone and that is color accuracy and a high resolution screen. The Galaxy Nexus has the high resolution screen so that’s checked off the list but I’m wondering about color accuracy.

When I view pictures on my GSII, the colors don’t look natural and the blacks are so black that the shadow areas on my photos look bad on my phone (eyes look very dark when they shouldn't be, that's on 100% brightness) and that bothers me. I checked out the LG Nitro HD and the screen is awesone, accurate colors and great shadow definition but the phone is slow and jerky so that's off the list.

I have a color managed laptop and I know I can’t expect all phones to be color managed but I’d like to know what you current Galaxy Nexus owners think about the color accuracy on the phone. If you’re a graphics artist or photographer that would help even more since you know what your image is supposed to look like (color wise).

I’d appreciate the input. Thanks.

As every other AMOLED based phone that has ever come out, colors are exaggerated, blacks are completely black and images are overly contrasted.

Stay away if you're looking for color accuracy. Also, "high resolution" is not exactly true, since the PenTile arrangement means it has 1/3 less subpixels than a true 720p display.

For color accuracy you want an IPS display, and that means iPhone 4/4S, LG Nitro HD (this one is real 720p) or Optimus 2X. Not sure if any other models have an IPS display.

For the OP:
I measured the Galaxy Nexus display yesterday with my Spyder3 colorimeter:

Just because it has an IPS display does not mean that it is accurate.

Selected quotes:
"8. Color Gamut:
Much Smaller than the Standard Color Gamut – Colors are Inaccurate and Under Saturated"
and
"9. Intensity Scale, Image Contrast and Gamma: Too Steep, Too Much Image Contrast, and non-Standard"

In other words, the iPhone 4 IPS display is very good, but not really accurate in terms of color reproduction.

Well I've had a nexus s and a galaxy s 2 on both of them it seemed over saturated. The galaxy nexus seems a lot more conservative with colour saturation at least that my subjective opinion its still very contrasty and vibrant just not obnoxiously so like previous amoleds.

If you care about colour accuracy you better look at phones with ips displays instead of amoled

I don't need it to be perfect but I know the SGSII is over the top when it comes to colors and contrast. Galaxy Nexus is my dream phone I just hope the screen isn't horrible regarding color in comparison to the SGSII.

That's good to hear. How are the whites? They look great on IPS displays and not bad on my SGSII.

Nice, so how what would you rate the Galaxy Nexus on color accuracy compared to the SGSII (1-10)?

Best looking amoled so far. Its has its quirks but it has a lot more perks. Get it.
