Default Do most apps use push notifications or not?

It's been awhile since I've owned an Android phone, and I'm thinking of going back... But what I'm wondering, is do most Android apps use push notifications like iOS does? I honestly don't remember. And things might've changed since I left.

I specifically care about Facebook, Twitter, maybe Tapatalk and Google+

facebook and twitter have push notifications for all android phones with OS 2.2 or higher. I'm sure Google+ has it too but not entirely, and there is no push for Tapatalk.

Facebook has push? Sweet. For some reason I just remember having to choose between 1 hour, 15 minutes, or whatever. It was annoying.

Facebook doesn't have push notifications... I just used my friends Android phone, there's no push notifications. You just get to choose a refresh rate. Crap. Am I missing something here?

Facebook has Push Notifications.
Just set the Refresh Rate to “Never” and enable any notifications you want.

Seriously? Oh wow - thank you! Facebook sure did a bad job making things clear, didn't they?
