What's up with Android game distribution? - it sucks.

What servers do games from the Market use to distribute their games? Is it first party self-hosted, or from google servers?

I ask because I have had an absolutely terrible experience downloading some games that require additional content. I'll start with the latest one.

Sonic CD


It starts downloading, very slowly, on a 15mbit connection connected by WIFI. Phone goes to sleep, download pauses, but that's normal because WIFI is suspending. If you keep the screen on and you accidentally touch the screen the download will cancel.. wtf?

I received a call and when I went back to the game it had restarted the download process.

This is basically the same issue with all other games that require extra content to be downloaded.

- does not resume download if interrupted
- slow
- slow

Afaik, it's third party server as per the description
