I have no Idea what the steps are to fix this and not even sure what the steps are to use this utility can someone pleas help or point me in the right direction
It seems there are issues with the driver installer in the current version. Try right-clicking on the Kindle, selecting uninstall, and check the box and hit Okay. Now reconnect the kindle and let it install the driver.
If this does not workI would suggest downloading an older version, say 0.6, and using the driver installer bat from there.

Take a look at this image:

Look up the driver details for your kindle and tell me if it looks like #1 or #2.

hi, i just got a Kindle Fire (i'm not in US) and i'm trying to root it, without access to amazon store is like an expensive digital photo frame.
I'm using Kindle Fire Utility 0.9.1 and kindle have 6.2.1 software inside.
I correctly install the driver but when i try to permanent root i got this error:

Oops... something went wrong.
We are unable to locate your Kindle Fire.
Make sure it is plugged in and powered on.
My kindle is plugged in and powered on, but when i install those drivers i can't see it in the "computer" window. From "Manage Devices" i can see this:

I read in this topic that teorically windows must see it like a "Kindle" and not like an "Android Phone", so i reinstalled the driver, i tryied to install it on other computer, but i always get this error.

What can i try? Thank you!

edit: solved using driver from this post: http://www.jayceooi.com/2011/12/29/h...-driver-video/

DONATE TO ME
That drivers the same as mine.

Whats happening is most people just need to uninstall the ADB Composite device if it reaches that point, and check the box to remove drivers.

Then hit scan for hardware, and it will come back as "kindle" then just install the drivers.

It can happen sometimes, its just a weird issue with windows.

would it be possible to build in a function that checks the adb shell ?
that would help the people with messed up system/bin/sh and would lower the time and effort to repair such cases in simply telling them they need a factory cable to recover.

it's really easy
just right click on your kindle from "Device Manager", then Uninstall and the magic popup with the infamous checkbox will appear! Something like this:

i made this example using my Vga, but the window is the same

@Vashypooh: i uninstalled checkin that box a LOT of times, but with the driver of the original package i always get the same error. With the other driver it worked on my first try!
