Default HC Flyer - Kindle app reading view won't rotate.

My Flyer received the OTA update to Honeycomb over the weekend and, minor stability issues aside, it seems pretty good.

I do have a problem with the Amazon Kindle app, which won't rotate. Well, the library view does rotate, but the reading view doesn't. In gingerbread, when I rotated the device, the lock symbol would appear but in honeycomb this does not happen. My reading view is stuck in portrait, and won't switch to landscape.

Is anyone else seeing the same behaviour? Or, does anyone have the Kindle app behaving properly on the honeycomb Flyer? I've force stop'ed the app but haven't tried reinstalling it, I thought I'd ask here before resorting to that. :)

Thanks in advance...

Dox

this video review of kindle app on honeycomb shows screen rotation as working, so i would probably go ahead and reinstall if you want to be sure if it's the app or if your setup that's the problem

i can tell you that on Mantano Reader you can lock the view to portrait or landscape, as well as having many (many) option settings which the kindle app doesn't provide

I am talking about Mantano Reader

YOU are talking about Repligo, which only reads PDFs and is not an ereader app

It is always the same:

After an update from gingerbread to honeycomb (OTA or last leak), you should re-install all apps or at least all with strange behavior..

Many apps didn't recognize this update and still think that they are running under gingerbread. Normally this is no problem but some apps has flags, install different stuff, etc. when they are installed first. And also for many apps exists a different honeycomb version.

PS. It flip but has not the two-side-landscape mode :(

Fair point Elim, and I've now removed and re-installed the app. Now, the rotation lock is gone, the page rotates with the device, but there's no way to lock it.

What appears to have happened is that the technique Amazon used to pop the little padlock icon onto the display when the device was rotated no longer works, so, although the config setting is present, there's currently no way to change it. When my Flyer was upgraded, I had the rotation locked and the app honoured that under HC, but now, after a re-install, the rotation setting is back as unlocked and again, there's no UI way to change that.

Before the Kindle app got a lock setting, I used Tasker to switch off Auto-rotation when the Kindle app was active. At least now, I have the choice to go back to that. I emailed Amazon support who suggested I call their helpline to go through some live assistance... I'll let you know how I get on..

I spoke to Amazon who confirm that the Kindle App doesn't play nicely with Honeycomb. It does rotate (unless you upgraded to HC with it locked) but there's currently no way to get to the control to lock/unlock from within the app. They suggest I watch out for an app update to fix the issue...

In the meantime I've written a little Tasker profile to turn off auto-rotate whilst the Kindle app is running. That way, it will stick in whatever orientation the Flyer is when I start the app. Not great but better than the display rotating annoyingly when I'm reading in bed...

Thanks to all who offered help.

Dox.

Kindle app rotates 360 on my Archos 80 running HC. I believe the Flyer only rotates one way for landscape and one way for portrait. Kindle app is currently nicer on GB than on HC (more options to customize in GB).

I read most of my books in Moon Reader Pro. Lots of customizations available.
