5.5.893 is the version that it will update FROM, not to. Stupid moto and their confusing update naming convention. It's the update TO 5.9.901.

when I try to install this it fails, error in temp/sideload/package.zip

assert failed : apply.patch.check /system/app/BookPhone.apk

I am running 5.5.893 OTA with forever root, I did a wipe and factory reset, no change.

It's missing that apk in system app. Did you freeze or delete any bloatware? Cause that's usually what causes this kind of issue.

I hadn't deleted anything, and unfroze stuff before starting... in my attempt to do this, I lost root as well.
I started over, reflashing the original rom and then downloading the OTA and once that is done installing I will try this one again.

edit: completed with no errors, still have root.
I think I may have used the black hat tools to debloat it and forgot to check that the first time around.

That'd do it. Glad you figured it out.

5.9.901 is worth the upgrade. I live on the edge of a 4G city and I usually have 1 bar of 4G or I'm in 3G. The switching back and forth causes huge battery drain and I go long periods without data. For the past 2 days, my signal is 5 dba stronger and I've had a solid 4G signal. It has tripled my battery life. I went 16 hours yesterday and my extended battery was still 50%. I haven't seen a 3G signal since my upgrade.
