Is there a JB version out yet? Worth updating to any JB version? I'm running the latest aokp milestone right now

Not yet but, you can periodically check by clicking the aokp site link in the OP

This ROM has been the only one I've found to support it, but my car stereo now notifies me of text messages. Any idea what changed in this release? Have not tested on jb aokp yet.

I'm not sure of the AOKP JB supports it but if it was supported in M6, it will be added or has been added most likely in the JB builds if I had to guess.
