Hmmm, I might have to get one but can I use the VivoW roms? I personally like your MIUI 4, Open Sense 4 & Aeroevans CM9 Kangs

roms can be ported, but cant be used as is
they have similar roms though, ie their cm9/aosp ics is at the same functional level as ours, they have a sense 4 rom port (actually 2: virtuous and nik's)
they just dont have a current miui 4 maintainer, nor does it look likely they ll get one atm

this phone is compatible , unless t-mobile restricts 3G to their own IMEI 3G devices , check this point first ( is it true or not )
VIVO has better support for future Roms and ICS roms
there is an Egyptian developer EhabFG makes really excellent Roms , i tried one of them on VIVOW

ehag doesnt seem to be active anymore (hasnt released anything in months) and just was a poor man's proxuser in terms of rom porting
supoort for ics roms going forward is about the same honestly as most fixes for each phone are compatible...honestly all the ics development on msm 7x30 devices are at about the same point because fixes are pretty universal
as for ics sense, both are getting official sense 3.6 at some point so thats the same
honestly though if you could trade or get a vivo cheaply and use 3g you d be in a better situation than using the vivow on edge

you are the judge regarding development and porting capabilities , i am as a user only can judge end product , the two or three roms i tested of his work were good , i don't have VIVO so i didn't know he stopped or slowed down these days
VIVO is faster getting newer Roms ( as you said in a previous Post , it has sense 4 roms ) , as i remember ( not sure ) newt was saying once he may consider porting VIVO Roms
i don't have the problem of E , cause where i am the GSM 3G is issued through 2100 band by the carrier ( the problem comes with sense3.5 roms that only gives me E ) , i don't remember what mikrunny world gives , i guess it is also E ( not sure ) , is that related to build.prop setting ?

its somewhat faster depending on the rom...they just happen to have more developers (though they have dwindled to the point where its about even)
I'm wondering.... can roms be worked on from windows? If so what tools would I need, I'd like to take a whack at it lol

aosp roms require either linux or mac osx to build/compile but skin roms (sense/tw/blur/et all) can be worked on in anything
basically a skin rom is just a pull of an RUU or ota firmware that is then hacked up to either work properly on another phone its ported to or to add mods/enhancements to it
truth be told i do way too much work in windows (when i have spare time at work) but its a lot easier at home in linux
you just need 7zip to extra/open roms, the android sdk/adb set up, apktool/apkmanager and notepad ++ (or equiv)
most developers (me included) got their start by theming as it teaches you the basics of what does what and what goes where as well as familiarizing with the various tools

OK well I can go ahead and install Ubuntu cause I'm more interested in ICS and maybe CM7 or 9 stuff. Making my own kangs and whatnot
Of course it would also help in making say GSM patches for the roms that don't support it, or just general help for you guys when you don't have time to fix stuff
