Question Is new HBOOT really necessary

Can someone confirm is it really necessary to flash new HBOOT versions (1.20 and later) for ICS to work? ADSP, kernel and radio related stuff are obviously needed but hboot..., really?

I've seen that some folks flashed old hboot versions (like 1.17 eng hboot) and ICS worked anyway.

SO, the real question is why in such case new hboot is present in ICS firmware? A lot of people after flashing new ICS-required firmware went nuts with problems like *LOCKED* and S-ON cases and even brick. Also fastboot commands are lost.

I'm sorry if I'm posting something that has already been answered, the flurry of posts are hard to keep up with.

I flashed the 3.24 firmware in hopes that a new rom would be ready, but it left my phone non functional. I would like to know if I can flash 3.12 over 3.24 without really screwing something up.

Any help would be GREAT!

I hope the actual mods will work with the new base, it's a pain in the a** to rebuild mods every weeks, specially with the actual apktool

Hboot 1.23 is required for the first 4.0.3 leak, many people have tried to boot the first leak of 4.0.3 rom on older Hboot, and were greeted with continual boot loops. On the 4.0.1 leaks, there were no such requirements. But with Hboot 1.2x and above you'll lose advanced fastboot commands, such as flashing .img files because the new ones haven't been hacked to get advanced flashing commands back.

Tl;Dr, you *need* Hboot 1.23 to run the first leaked 4.0.3 rom, and you *need* Hboot 1.27 to run the new sense 3.6 rom.

Also as I see it from the posts in this thread, you need 1.23 or lower to run GB based roms (at least for now)

I know mike is still trying to get his 6.1.0 reposted, but can we also have the download link for the new firmware. Someone posted a link a page earlier, but want to make sure it would work.

Mike, thanks for the great rom. My experience with 6.0.x was a little bad. But I look forward to thoroughly enjoy the 6.1.0.

Thanks for the great work in all directions of the HTC Sensation.

I tried again, and now it does download.

However, the size of the 3.24 firmware is the same as the 3.12 right above it at 13.9 MB.

The link that was posted, the file was 14.6 MB.

Obviously, the 6.1.0 link is up and its all downloaded, but I want to make sure before I dive into this.

Thanks.
