Just add that the phone needs to reboot after replacing the APK. I thought I was clear enough in my instructions but I guess not :/
Force closes are normal. Pull the battery and reboot. I've done this on 3 ROMs no problem. Rootzboat, cm9 kang, and currently aokp

Okay. Ran into the same problem as other people after replacing StstemUI.apk on the phone. What are the critical steps?
Changing permission before moving the apk file?
Moving apk file back into system instead of copying?

Funny thing is, I had stored a copy of the original SystemUI.apk on my SD card; and even after copying that one back to system, I was not able to get the menu back.

Bummer. Maybe it is time to move on to a 4.0.3 ROM (currently on 4.0.2 Revolution). Don't want to hijack this thread, but what seems to be the most stable 4.0.3 ROM out there right now?

Used the SystemUI.apk I created from method 3 and inserted into .zip from second method and flashed. Worked even though method 3 failed for me. I'm running CM9.

After your softkeys and notification bar disappears. Are you rebooting and there still gone?
