Are FFU's signed? It sounds too easy to modify the os offline and to reupload it. (kind of like how android customs roms can be pre-rooted)

THEORY
Ffu is signed.
Any change to ffu can brick the device.
We need to hack bootloader or find a way how to access filesystem with current rom.

MOST USEFULL for rom makers:
Complete dump from FFU 7004 RETAIL os files, have crop it from ffu file.
-NK packages:
XIP
-IMGFS packages:
SYS, OEM, XCONT
-Packages from new AUG2011 update.

Also there you can find both(new and old package in OEMApps) vesions of EM.xap and why compass is stopped working after august update..

IDEAS
There is also something to discuss:
I have used Nokser tool to implement IMGFS to ffu, flashed to device and pulled usb off during process... got a brick stucking on dell logo
But: 0) Nokser tool doesnt move ffu file size- bad for bigger roms than official, may be good if its signed on ffu size.
1) My imgfs was made with wrong compression (XPR not XPH) by mistake
2) I have pulled off usb, while now im reading it says everywhere dont take cable during updatewp otherwise your device will be "break". But it was going updating 1% p/2 min from 45%..
3) I have read that MJSC did almost same stupid thing to brick his device but i dont know if he FINISHED UPDATING and what was his case exactly.

I feel like ffu can be replaced inside without signing, otherwise updatewp tool wont accept it to flash??!!!
If you want, i can make new rom in 2 min and publish new ffu, but there is chance 1 of 2 or it will break or rom will run.. May be there is also 3d chance - is to enter bootloader for downloading original FFU by powering on with combinaton VOL_down+camera, but It wasnt working form my bricked device.. Standart download combination Camera+power is MS download mode is running from NK(xip) selection of ffu, there i have found it.
it can be used by someone who live in USA who easely can replace his device by garranty by DELL(as i did but i needed to send it to my sister in USA from Ukraine while DELL send it to her).
