Default Noob help, CM7. Total noob.

So I'm new to the Android community. I only just joined when I got my Kindle Fire. I've heard that "Cyanogenmod 7" can be put on the Fire. I've looked on their site, and I have a vague idea of what it is, but not the full picture, so could someone explain to me what it is, and what good it would do to get it on my Kindle Fire?

Thanks.

cm7 is an alternate rom, has nothing to do with amazon and the kf will be like any other standard android tablet. all the special features from amazon will not be available.

I'm aware it doesn't specifically have anything to do with the KF, but what is a rom, and what will change exactly? I'm new to the Android community.

They are not available by defualt, but their are ports. It's very easy to get them on Cyanogenmod. It allows you to run more games on it since it has the gingerbread on it. It's also pre rooted.

But I'm still not getting what it is. I joined the Android community 5 days ago. I'm still a baby!

the rom is the os - stock and cm7 are both based on android 2.3.4 (gingerbread) but that are different - let's say - distributions, with different look and feel - there are many pictures on the web about that - just google for it

I'm beginning to understand, and I prefer that UI to the stock, do you think it's worth the transition? Thanks.
And, is there a difference in battery life etc? Anything bad?

I think I'm going to give it a go. Just one question. The kindle fire has no buttons, so when I install CM7, the default bottom bar that is used for navigation on the KF will surely be gone, is there a solution to this, and you think it'll be a problem? EDIT: Oh, and does CM7 come with root access by default?

this would be a good point to start:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1390773
and read,read,read to avoid problems
the navigation is no problem - saw pictures where it is integrated in the bar from cm7 at the right side
you need a additional app to regulate the loudness
and i think cm7 comes rooted (i have never used it)
read the above thread - all you need is in there

good luck !
