Are they re-opening it on another thread or the project is dead ?

For the mods.... can anyone explain what's all the stuff with Thor and why he's not present at XDA?? I've downloaded and flashed his ICS Alpha ROM and maybe the only reason why it's called alpha is because camera and hdmi don't work, but the rest is 99% done... I use it as my daily driver. So, why a good developer that's doing working ICS roms is left aside from XDA?

Cheers!!
Because he refuses to release the source code to his kernel which is illegal. A site like this cannot stay open by allowing members to break the law.

It's a simple matter really. If he followed the law and posted the source code he would be allowed to keep his work here.

It has nothing to do with the quality of his work...

And you need to give it a rest. Mainly, because you don't have a clue as to what happened, or on why things happened like they did. Otherwise you would elaborate on all the names involved.

Let it lay, and don't start things again.

In a nutshell you hit the nail right on the head. I haven't seen anyone post a negative comment about the quality of his work, just his non-compliance with the GPL (which he feels for whatever reason applies to everyone else but him).

Let's make clear something for who doesn't know what is GPL (General Public License), read here for many informations regardless.

This mean that recovery is not cover form GPL but ( randomblame do know that ) from Apache, source for CWM are in CyanogeMod and are made from Koush so, FYI, Thor didn't was forced to post his CWM source but only Kernel source, in fact the source that you find on first post it is ONLY for the kernel by blazingwolf.

The CWM present here it was grabbed from the dissected recovery.img by Thor, it was changed:

Code:
else
RECOVERY_NAME := Thor2002ro rev 1.3.4 -> GPL compliant recovery
endif
simply by opening it with an hex editor.

The main thing it is pretty easy to do:

extract recovery.img with yaffs and you will have the recovery folder with a lot of scripts, images and binary.

Open with an hex editor recovery located into sbin folder.

Change lines from 0009CD67 till 0009CD80 with any name of your choise and voilà, you will have your recovery with your name of choice lol

Change also icon_clockwork.png located in res/images with any of your choice.

False, as said recovery is not in violation of any rules.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

False, this is not the latest CWM version, the last one is 5.0.2.7

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

false, this is Thor CWM and if it works fine than this will works too.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
True, and you must give proper credits, i don't consider this as credits.

Since i am on the Iconia A500 moderators i kindly ask you to change your first post with the right words and thread title too, "GPL Compliant Recovery" is only hilarious.

@all, i hope this help to stop with all these posts garbage about Thor, GPL and whatever.

Thor was already punished to not post his Kernel source as far as many other developers.

I find your long post thorough but seeded with angst & sarcasm which serves to stifle development, even if your motive is to promote compliance with the GPL- for which I agree with you by the way.
I own a G-Tablet and when angst & sarcasm pervades moderators posts it stopped development for a long while and folks migrated to Slate Droid. I'd prefer things were worked out here so that development stays here at XDA. I appreciate the volunteerism of being a moderator and compliance with GPL, we have enough vendors breaking this by selling products without releasing source so we must be faithful to the GPL.
I now see folks following the same pattern in the Iconia Tablet forum as the G-Tablet forum debacle and leaving XDA. This bothers me due to my respect for XDA. It makes me as a Acer Iconia A500 Tab owner feel like returning my product because it's discouraging quite frankly.
All that to say, if you are frustrated with development as a moderator it may be better to resolve it via PM and peacefully close the post. The angst and sarcasm in your tone serves as a discouragement. If you don't know how you sound when you write, then I suggest you not click send so quickly and re-read it before posting.
