Default [Q] Removing android smileys in ICS?

Is there a way to remove or at least block the android smileys in the default messaging app? I want to use it, but those little androids are pretty ugly to say the least. Thanks!

Of course, some people may like them and others may not. I personally don't even understand what some of them mean, so a simple sign like would be a lot better.
Still waiting for someone who knows how to change them

I love Android, but those stock ICS smileys creep me out. I'd like to know how to replace them with something normal.
