Great tutorial/post. It was really noob friendly. I have a couple of questions:
1. How do you back up contacts with google?
2. Can I just use cwm recovery instead of kernel flasher? Which one is better and why is that one better?

fishy,
you may need to spend some alone time with your phone and discover some functions first before you flash anything.

go to settings and look around at all the options.

1. go to contact. menu button on the left lower corner. check them out.
2. cwm recovery or sgs kf is fine. either gets the job done. in some rare moments, one works better than the other.

I've lost root on some rare occasions just using cwm. Kernel flasher works perfect for me with no problems at all.

Great post!

A sticky on battery life tips and tricks would be nice too. I'm a noob but IMO I see custom ROMS being blamed for poor battery life way too often and cluttering up ROM threads. (Guilty as charged lol)

Found one here

I might write something up. Does anyone think its' worth it?

It might be helpful. You can add the write up here. Gather as much info as you know and link that you think will be helpful. Hopefully it will be useful for some. I can put a link to it in the op or the second page.
