I always use the command "apktool if framework-res.apk" before starting anything. It has always decompiled without any errors at all, just can't recompile. Strangely, on my parallels win7 install, I get a pop-up telling me that aapt.exe has stopped and then I get the same error that I always get on my macbook, so possibly aapt is silently crashing on my macbook also.
I'll have to wait until I get home on Monday and try everything on my main PC.
