• update-script is a universal format fits all , new devices like ours use updater-script , The updateR-script is more advanced than the update-script and supports more devices
• Unlike the update-script, the updater-script is supported in newer versions of ClockworkMod Recovery " i.e zips can be flashed through recovery without giving error "
• it is carried out once only when flashing the Custom Rom for the first time
• This is a file found under the META-INF/com/google/android folder,
• it specifies the operations required for flashing your ROM. It performs various file operations, such as creating file shortcuts (also known as symlinks or symbolic links), adding permissions to files, running scripts and copying files and folders. After flashing your ROM this file is not executed again.
• The updateR-script also requires an update-binary file included with it. The update-binary contains all the binaries for the commands that the updater-script uses (e.g. set_perm, symlink, format, mount, etc.). The update-script does not need an update-binary.

Well, that means you can't use it with ota because of signature.
What can be done, is if you are unlocked, make ota into flashable zip with updater- script included.

• it is up to my understanding , Edit ( for S-ON devices ) is that you can't flash any of the following unless your bootloader is locked , even if it is a signed official htc software :
  • you can't flash RUU.exe
  • you can't flash firmware
  • and i guess according to the same concept , you can't flash OTA
• this is because i guess htc want to make sure that your device is 100% on stock and secured " bootloader locked " before it flashes your device " some kind of avoiding liability i guess "
• for that reason you get a security warning " not a big deal " if you relocked your bootloader while having any unofficial software like Custom recovery or custom hboot for example , the device will not even boot on that settings
• so locking bootloader is the way htc ensures that :
  • all partitions are on official software , otherwise you will have a security warning
  • the protection on Partitions is active before flashing any of the above three items
• we are just users , developers who can / should help us out in such solutions
• and in RC Forum , i want to suggest some kind of help " lessons / tutorials " that should be given to RC members
• we RC members should make use of those official " lessons / tutorials " by developers and save them from answering users questions as much as possible , so we both benefit , we learn the right way and they have time to develop

Sensation XE ICS - CyanogenMod9 possibility

Sorry new to this game. I am contemplating CyanogenMod9 on my sensation xe as I am sick of 'beats bloat ware' and htc sense (since ics all it does is crash).

Anyway I was wondering if CyanogenMod9 is for the HTC sensation only or whether it also works with XE XL etc?

Also I noticed in the original bugs list it says bluetooth audio is not working. I assume from the lack of info in the change logs that this is still the case?

Also the guide on the CyanogenMod9 wiki looks nice and simple but does this work with devices running ICS? Looked around and most of links from google on rooting say that ICS cant be rooted, is this correct?

Sensation & XE are the same phone technically. Yes you can.

• your hboot 1.18.000, but your software version is too new for revolutionary
• revolutionary will S-OFF your device , you have two Alternatives :
  • use tacoroot without downgrading software or without unlocking bootloader with htc dev here [Guide] Fix for Revolutionary S-OFF fails on OTA S-ON update , " start with battery fully charged "
    
  • or unlock bootloader and downgrade software " Safer if you don't mind warranty " , then use revolutionary , go here Downgrade S-ON New firmware and GB OTA for Successful Revolutionary first time S-off ( Sensation ) here
  • for either method you use , follow title Revolutionary Precautions in here
  you can also use [TOOL] HTC Sensation/XE/4G Super Utility (all in one) by kgs1992 , check if it can smplify the above process

i've tried tacoroot but after adb shell /data/local/tacoroot.bin --root command, my phone now boot loop on bootanimation i don't know what should i do...

Just to clarify, I rooted my phone when I was on 1.50.401.1.
So it was rooted, unlocked with revolutionary, and s-off and I had custom recovery.
I then flashed back to stock recovery, checked for an OTA update and accepted, downloaded and installed the
OTA_PYRAMID_ICS_HTC_Europe_3.32.401.5-1.50.401.1_P_release_246627z7pljztztog0er50-2.zip

So the locking of the bootloader wasn't necessary for a succesful update.
Only original CID and stock recovery was.

yes. And if you are S Off you can obviously just flash the fw containing Revo Hboot to overcome the locking of the bootloader.
