@markkeny: Hold the power button and either volume up or volume down. This will get you past that splash screen with the android and exclamation mark, then continue with the updating. If it's not vol. up, it's vol. down, it's been way too long since i've done it.

Default hmm...still not working

Thank you both for your suggestions. After selecting recovery with the volume keys, and executing it with the power key:

1. if I hold volume up and power, then it just reboots into the bootloader

2. if I hold volume down and power, then it just reboots into the old os, ie 2.3.6

3. if I wait until the first unpack icon and then press power, it still goes to the exclamation mark.

I might be missing something obvious, so to recap:
1. the update.zip file is still zipped
2. the update.zip file is in the root of the sd card

Are you both 100% sure that this is the correct rom for the phone ?

Ive tried both the incremental one and the full rom now, and have the same results for both !

Thanks again for your help

OK, I think Ive got it....

Wait until you have the droid with the exclamation mark and then its power and volume up.

Sorry being a bit slow on this.

Glad to hear you got it. Next step: Root, and then custom ROMs

Default Going from CM7 to OTA 4.0.3

Hi,
My I9020T is currently on
2.3.7 - CyanogenMod-7.1.0.1-NS
Baseband I9020XXKF1
ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.0

and I would like to go to Official Android 4.0.3

If I understand correctly I will have to do a full wipe from ClockworkMod Recovery

Is this how I need to do this?

wipe data/factory reset
format /system
format /boot

Then I can Install this zip from the first post
ZD3PyN0t.zip

Can someone please confirm my steps? I don't like to brick my phone.
Thank you.

Yes, stock roms have a script that resets recovery on boot
After first boot delete/rename /system/recovery-from-boot.p then flash cwm again and it should stick
