When you do a clockworck mode backup does it save your system + kernell?

Yes it does, a full backup (which is the default) includes:

.android_secure.vfat.tar (invisible file)
boot.img (kernel)
cache.ext4.tar (cache)
data.ext4.tar (data)
nandroid.md5 (md5 checksum file)
recovery.img (recovery, linked to boot.img)
system.ext4.tar (system)
Samsung Galaxy S Plus (i9001)
