Unicode messaging

A friend of mine has a Motorola Triumph and he wants to send messages in Unicode. When he sends a message in another alphabet (Cyrillic) all the addressee gets is some strange symbols. CM7-TG-Reloaded ROM is installed, dated 21 January 2012, but there doesn't seems to be a way to turn Unicode messaging on. This setting seems to be omitted in the original ROM as well. Is there any application that could solve the problem? Thank you in advance!
