I think as of 12/02/09 (February 9th, 2012), Samsung decided to pull the plug on the "official" Gingerbread that they had made available.
The build itself wasn't as stable as the current Froyo in my opinion (I didn't have the touchscreen issue that everyone else was having, but it did render a third of my music library as "unknown", rainbow cracked the album art for a good 30 albums, and also made games run at what to me eye looked like lower frames per second).
I also found it very strange that the whole official update was never announced. Everyone was obsessing over it, so when that one AT&T rep posted it on the forums, everyone just ran for it. But I'd think if Samsung had released it officially and felt that it was ready to be distributed, they would have done the same thing they did with the Captivate.
I may be wrong, but I think they never intended on letting us update this one in the first place. They probably assumed that everyone did the OTA update last year and was on UCKH1 and thus thought blocking the update for UCKH1 alone was enough.
