Not necessarily that's why aosp and aokp roms are out there. But if you want the latest version and you bought a htc for say you should expect it will take oems a while to add there things

yes i know but this is not my concern, the real concern if google is really allowing a "timed exclusive" for their new OS before providing access to OEMs

I don't know how the current situation is with AOSP/AOKP and HOX. But when I tried it in ICS days, it was buggy and battery hungry. And that happened to me as well with my old DHD even right before I got my HOX.

When I buy an HTC I know I never gonna have the lastest version on time, I can live with that by now. The 4.2.x doesnt mean much to my HOX. And I have it on my N7.

Ah ok, that would be even worse. If we hadn't enough with OEM's delaying of porting the skins/kernels/etc..

I would use it as a WiFi hotspot, and for a secondary device if the one runs out of battery, since it has awesome standby times. The real question for me is WHICH COLOR SHOULD I CHOOSE

Whats the need for 4.2 ? Thats what sense are used for, they tweak the rom for better functionality and pushed more by the developer here. Even I cant stand using CM 10.1 even for a day because of sense offer so much more

Aosp roms are much better now ( i don't use them ) but i've seen ppl reporting 4-5 hours screen on time with XM kernel. I guess you can give it a try if you like stock look.
