ok im at the point where I am trying to install the recovery image and when I enter the commands and then reboot and then wait 3 seconds and hit vol down to go into recovery it never gives me the option for recovery. The options I get are fastboot, RSD, and NVflash. What am I doing wrong?

Default Stuck @ Step2-8 and 2-9

I am at Step2-8 and 2-9.

Once formatting is done my Xoom automatically reboots and does not accept the command in Step2-9 (fastboot reboot). This puts me back at Step2-4. Am I not executing fastboot reboot quickly enough? Suggestions to get me out of this loop?

Update:

So I'm not stuck at 2-8 any longer and I managed to install the Tiamat recovery and root my tablet. One last verification step is to "access the new recovery". How do I do that exactly?

First, thanks a lot for the concise, easy to follow rooting method. Finally, I have root on my MZ604!

Just a thought - you might want to add a link to su-install.zip so folks can install SuperUser at CWM reboot recovery time. After I finished the steps in your tutorial I tried to run a root app and I got a message stating I didn't have root access. After installing SuperUser the app ran smoothly.

Again, thanks so much for the thread. Now, I'm off to play in Rootland.

Thanks for the guide! Just went through it, a couple of things:

The xoom root file at the location posted is no longer available. Searching that thread I found it at:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/43942134/Xoo...ersal-Root.zip

Also, since they don't come with an SD card, maybe include it in the list of requirements at the start?

Second, please note in the tutorial that Debugging must be enabled in the settings, both before and after the first wipe / reset.

Third, renaming the files didn't work for me for some reason, I kept getting file not found. Instead, I did this:

adb shell
cd /system
mv recovery-from-boot.p recovery-from-boot.p.old
cd /etc
mv install-recovery.sh install-recovery.sh.old

Otherwise, everything went well and I'm running the latest CM9 Nightly on my Verizon LTE Xoom! Thanks!

Been waiting for this semester to end so I wouldn't need my xoom on a daily basis. Now I've finished my finals, finally, and run through these steps. I expected it to be a more arduous task than it was. However, it was a learning experience. For one I learned the difference between internal memory and the sd card I got them mixed up because my file explorer calls both of them /sd. Other than that I had no trouble following the guide.

Much thanks for the guide. I'm still reading to figure out exactly what I want to do with the xoom, I'm looking around trying to figure out what will be the most effective for both entertainment and academics.

Yep, thanks a lot for this.

2 things though:

1) I think, given how detailed this and other guides are, it would be helpful if they could be more precise about the exact sequence of hardware button presses required where necessary. It took me a few goes to realise that I shouldn't still be holding power and volume up when I press volume down.......obvious if you've done this many times of course, not to a nervous first timer.

2) I also got a message about file not found when I was trying to rename the recovery files. I then tried to boot into CWM anyway and it worked fine...

I tried your commands. However, when I input the last line, I get "no such file or directory".
Thank you kindly,
Rosy
