1. Install CWM for P6800 http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1470896
2. Download this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1520888 in a CWM flasheable zip file.
3. COPY the Zip file to the root internal memory of your device
4. Boot into CWM Wipe data and install the rom from Internal Memory.

This will install a HK rom with none of the chinese BS. I found out that Odin and MobileOdin doesnt work with a chinese p6800 due to a locked bootloader but flashing with CWM is possible.

Once you flash the HK rom the only thing that will remain is the chinese modem. If you want to have the original HK modem installed you just have to extract the modem.bin file from the original HK rom and flash it with Odin. After that your device will be able to update with KIES and be recognized as an original HongKong p6800.

Good Luck
I could do it as Joaquin says in the post, if somebody has any difficulty on any of the steps mentioned above then can send me the question over here and i will answer it and try to help you to solve it. I can help you in Spanish or English. I am very happy for this.

I just have a question for joaquin, can i install a different ROM from this? (i.e. latin american ROM) Thanks in advance.

Por cierto joaquin de donde eres?

Default stuck in the middle

Hi, I bought a P6800 this week in China (I am China resident) and spend now a lot of time to get rid of the CN ROM.

This thread looked very good to help me, but I can not install the "Update (5/2/12) Tweaked Stock Final 3.0 (3G Only)" from the link given above.

I did:
root the GT - OK
Install CWM recovery v5.0.2.7 with Odin - OK
Download the Zip and placed it UNTOUCHED in the machines root

When I select "install zip from sdcard - choose zip from sdcard" I can select it and progress start but than it shows Can't open ......zip (bad) Installation aborted.

What is wrong?

I hope you can help me as a Android newcomer.
Thanks a lot.

If your tab is only WiFi version then your tab model is p6810 instead of p6800, so you need to look for a p6810 ROM. Or maybe the .zip file is corrupted, so I suggest you to download again .zip file and try it. Post your results

Default ICS?

Have any of you guys had any success installing the ICS ROM on these Chinese machines? I've got mine running the tweaked ROM as described above, but can't seem to get ICS to install successfully. Always end up softbricking and having to go back to the tweaked ROM.

It could be due to the XXLQ1 ICS firmware that he says in the installation instructions you need to flash it before flashing the ICS ROM

Well, I tried installing XXLQ1 after installing the stock HK ROM but it had the same end effect and I had to go back to the tweaked ROM to unbrick. I think I might have to use a pit file and then install but I am trying to avoid that.

Default Advice on how to extract modem.bin file?

Hola areyalp,

I also used Joaquin's advice back in March of this year to install the tweaked HK ROM onto my Chinese bought P6800 and was delighted to find that it worked perfectly. However, I have recently been trying to install an updated ICS ROM but have not been successful yet. The ones I have tried to flash via Odin haven't worked; I heard somewhere this is because the Chinese P6800 has a locked bootloader or something like that. So I tried to flash a ROM posted in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1796866 via CWM but that also didn't work. I think the downloaded zip file is corrupt as the process was aborted in CWM mode.

I am now considering returning to Joaquin's advice on extracting the modem.bin file from the HK ROM to replace the Chinese modem so that I may be able to update my P6800 via KIES or using Odin. I've searched through the extracted folders but can't seem to find the file. You very kindly invited people to reply to you with questions about Joaquin's steps so that is why I'm replying to you rather than Joaquin. Perhaps you have an idea where I can find the modem.bin file...what does it look like, what's it called? I am very new when it comes to all this technical stuff.

Muchas gracias por su tiempo,
emsmairead
