Well, I shall search for a way to get S-On with no access to recovery; I'll continue flashing to see if I can get something to stick before that though. My fallback plan is a Samsung Moment I have sitting around...
I saw this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...6#post16133086

Not sure if it'll help, but at this point, probably couldn't make it worse. I saw a reference to nv items so it could be something.

Thanks man. I'll look into this tomorrow, I've been working on a couple Nooks, a Nexus S, an Epic and a Moment for the last couple days and it's burned my energy.

Will go back and hit the thanks button, thank y'all for your help. Hopefully I can fix it, if not then hopefully a replacement... If not, then I'll see you on the next quad-core LTE phone

Thanks captain, I tried this last October with my death booted evo but to no avail. Hopefully someone has success because I'd be interested in seeing how they got the phone running. My death boot started while on miui

I'm throwing in the towel. Let's talk getting S-On without recovery. I am at .79 HBOOT, any ideas? I've stared at the screen so long looking through a lot of threads and tried so many flashes. I can't handle it anymore.

This is S-Off through Unrevoked. The only way I knew how to get S-On was to flash it through recovery, but because of my lack of access, can't really do that...

Thanks guys for all of the help, I do appreciate it

Ya, I got nothin. I'll try to think of another way, but I honestly don't know of any. Maybe try and open up the unrevoked s-on zip and see if the steps it performs can be done manually (i.e. through fastboot)? That's the only thing I can think of.

Update-binary is absolute gibberish to me, but updater-script makes some sense to me. I didn't know that it involves EPST.

Other than that, maybe a hex-edited HBOOT?

Hex-edited HBOOT shouldn't affect an unrevoked forever S-OFF, as the unlocking method has nothing to do with HBOOT (unlike Revolutionary). If you can find a way to perform the commands listed in the updater script, you might have a fighting chance.

That's what I thought, I wasn't sure if you could spoof S-On or you actually had to get access to that NV stuff.

I'll look for a way to run the commands. Perhaps a PC36IMG.zip could do it? ROMs can be flashed through that, so if I flash a ROM with the EPST file from the S-On package and find a way to get that command to run, then I might be able to have a chance.

I will look into this and see if I can help. Not sure when I'll have time, though.

I'm curious is this only a problem with unrevoked devices because unrevoked used the NV to root? Just wondering since revolutionary used Hboot to nand unlock the phone and I don't want to risk using cm7 and end up with a brick on my hands
