unlocking bootloader threads should have this warning in their tutorial.

my friend bought his x8 yesterday and went directly to the x8 Development Category,
at first its going smoothly until we turned off the phone for flashing, and after that it won't open. we checked the manufactured date and unfortunately its 12w04 and thought were so ****ed up, we tried manny procedure but nothing works.

as for now were praying to all deity that we know if the dealer would replace the phone without extra charge.

To keep things at a fair level I need to point out that nelkip actually included the warning in his [EASIEST GUIDE] How to unlocking bootloader (in the Q&A AND Development section posts) quite some time ago.

Unless your friend followed the somewhat larger X8 Boot Loader post in the development section he maybe missed out on

11W29 above U better stay away and stop dreamming (i got 4 times hard bricked on 11W38)

They are STILL manufacturing the phone?
At this rate Android 2.1 will never "die".

Um, could this affect X10 mini pro as mine is at 11w11, and I saw on some threads that someone bricked phone with x8 11w10 and 11w09?

Yes, this problem also affect the X10 mini/Pro - though I don't know about the critical date code there - as they are based on the same MSM7227 CPU and MPU.

Maybe post a question in the X10 mini/Pro sub-board if someone over there has worked out the 11W?? value where you will most likely run into a hard brick.

As you can read here there are some post 11W29 phones whose boot loader unlocked perfectly, though I assumed 11W29 because that's the week (week 29 of 2011) where we observed the very first hard brick related to the symptoms as laid out by the_laser (in short, the 11W29 for the X8/W8 is adjusted to real world cases).

I take you also didn't follow nelkip's boot loader unlock guide where the warning would've been written near the beginning...

Well, as already mentioned ...

Send it off to SE for repair (and play dumb) or try to find a SKILLED phone repair shop where the technician is able to resurrect dead bricks through JTAG / UART flash.

No, i was following some other guide not on this forum but on youtube, so there was never any warnings on it lol.

Ill go to the nearest Phone Repair shop and ask them if they can fix it, and how mutch it will cost, if it costs more than 600 Nkr ill just buy a new phone and start over again on a " Trusted " Guide..

that's because your phone is 10W50, not 11W50
the problem is caused only by phones produced at or after 35th (or some 29th) week of 2011 - 11W35 ( or, again, some say 11W29) and higher.

I think i know the answer but i'll ask anyway: has anyone found any way to "bypass" this issue?
Because my X8 could really use Android 2.2 and from what I read on official SE forums there is not going to be official 2.2 for X8.

Btw: after i hardbricked my X8, i sent it to official SE service provider, playing dumb, like i didn't knew what happened, they fixed it free of charge. When it got back it had "Replaced motherboard." note in warranty book. Is there any possibility that they... uhm... idk... replaced it with something <11W29? And if yes, then is there any way to find out (the sticker behind battery still says 11W45 so i guess that's not the way in this case)?

Someone posted something here in the General board that there's a newly found way to unlock the boot loader on 11W29+ devices ... don't have the link at hand but I'll have a look and will post an edit.

EDIT: [NEWS]UNLOCK BOOTLOADER for 11w29+

I think the chances are pretty slim that the service center replaced the motherboard with a pre 11W29 one. It's more likely that the replacement is even newer (11W5x -> 12W0x) than your original motherboard was.
