I am not sure this is all necessary or will work for you -- this is a noob thread, so the best approach may be to look for a response from one of the highly-rated pros, not another noob like myself. I learned that if I have a new build.prop variant that I wish to try, called "build.prop" (not a zip or other form), because my phone is rooted and I installed Superuser and Root Explorer (from market), all I need to do is to replace the old build.prop in the /system/ folder. Before replacing, I back up the old build.prop. After replacing, I reboot.

Current stable config:
Phone: AT&T SGH-i717-T (the T stands for a GNote running T-Mobile)
Android: DAGr8/Collective ICS_CLC5_Alpha2.zip
Modem: GNote_i717_ICS_TMobile_Blaze_Modem.zip
Mods: app-fix-DPI.zip, BlueSystemUI.zip

If You used ROM manager than!
Go to manage and restore backups!
And press the one you like to restore!

If you have Nandroid than!
Go to CWR!

Press restore!
