Just a question.... I would like to use fera ics as daily Rom, but I actually need a working camera, at least sometimes. So, while waiting for it to work in ics, I was thinking of making a backup of ics Rom and of feralab v20, in order to switch from the first to the second one any time camera is needed...

But the problem is kernel... Does any of you know if there is any kernel suitable for both ics and stock roms? Or if there is a kexec function in android kernel to launch a kernel from another one or any app exists to choose which kernel must be launched while booting.

Such features would be very useful, because I could avoid the need to flash a new kernel (which requires flashtool and a pc) while switching from ics to gingerbread and back and I could definitely use the camera even when along... Just 5 minutes to restoring feralab v20

Sorry for such a long post, but I am still reading a lot about android and I have to learn too many things,

Oh, I see there is a multiboot for android too. That could be an easier way to switch from a Rom to another, but still the kernel's matter stands...

ok, there should be an option in boot manager to choose the kernel to be loaded, though I can't find it yet.

I've had the same idea, and done quite a bit of research only to find that, on unlocked bootloader, you have no other option than flashing kernel through flashtool. However, there is something that could be done, but I haven't tried it.

You could try Doomlord's Bootmanager method (flash it's FTF with Flashtool and press menu key while booting), but in that case you need the kernel sources from kernel developers, you can't flash FTF kernel files using this method. More on the link below:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1278318 [THIS COULD WORK]

ICS-based ROMs use different libraries than stock-based ROMs. This fundamental difference prevents you from using [ICS ROM / GB kernel], [GB ROM / ICS kernel] and [one kernel for all] combinations.

This is just my understanding of things, take it with a grain of salt. I'm not an expert in the field, just throwing this out there, hope it shed some light on the problem.

Cheers!

Thanks, I have already posted a question in bootmanager's thread, because I unsuccessfully tried to load another custom kernel.

Anyway, it would be great if bootmanager allowed to choose both the kernel and the Rom, without having to restore it.
