Use the first or second guide in my signature to go to Gingerbread. If you are rooted you will have to use the second link since Kies mini will not recognize rooted phones.

No a new kernel won't put you on Gingerbread. You need Gingerbread bootloaders since you are on Froyo.

Follow the second link in my signature, follow the guide and flash with bootloaders... assuming you want a 2.3.6 Custom Gingerbread ROM.

Is there a standalone clockworkmod recovery file that I can install onto a SGS4G phone in which there is no CWM installation? Thank you.

If you're on Froyo, you can use [RECOVERY]CWM FINAL for the SGS4G - FROYO ONLY. Note you need to have root access to the phone for that to work, though.

If you're on Gingerbread, no. You'll need to flash a ROM or kernel that has CWM.
If I helped, please click the "Thanks" button!

Ok a couple of questions again guys.

@lumin30 i read your instruction from your signature and i was curious.

Can i use ODIN for the SGS4G ?

Which is the best ROM (speed wise besides MIUI - if there is one for it) ?

Is there an ICS mod for this phone yet ? (i browsed the android development sub-forum and i couldnt find anything on it)
