Unless your fluent in proprietary driver specifications, hacks, and reverse engineering byte code/assembly I wouldn't see it happening during our lifetimes.
Everybody here is going to sound like they actually know what they are talking about but very few have a clue. They just mess around with config files and Photoshop. If they know what heapspraying, buffer overflows, executing arbitrary code is, keep them around. Another thing is kids love to say they are hackers and know what those things are. Unless they have rep (belong to a hacking team) blow them off and stay dedicated to hacking drivers. 99.9% other "hackers" are just a distraction. I can't tell you how many of those kinds of losers infest Colleges and Highschools alike.
PROTIP: Back when these forums were in their infancy a guy named whose name was 'blu' something mentioned that all android devices include a "breaboard mode" where once can test the I/O. I would start there. Also, search RevNIC see if its a dead-end or not. Could save you a few years if you plan on going forward with this or not.
TL;DR
read up about reverse engineering proprietary drivers.
Reverse Engineer Sidekick 4G. Re-release with open-source drivers.
