Default [GUIDE][ROM] Android x86 Ice Cream Sandwich for Acer netbooks

This guide is based upon the Android x86 project over at http://android-x86.org

This guide is for Acer Aspire netbooks which came with android pre-installed on them.

What works in their dev builds?
WiFi
HW acceleration
Keyboard
Apps to SD
Fake SD
Gapps
Sound (Speakers & Headphones)
Camera
USB

Partially working:
YouTube (LQ Works, HQ doesn't)

Don't know because my model doesn't have it:
Mobile Data via SIM
Bluetooth

Requirements:
A drive with Android pre-installed on it
Windows
MiniTool partition wizard
A USB stick that you don't mind losing all the data on
Win32Disk Imager

Instructions:
1. Boot into Windows and launch Acer Configuration Manager for Android. Turn Android OFF
2. Launch your favourite browser and download the Android x86 4.0 ASUS_LAPTOP .iso file
3. When the file is downloaded, change its extension to .img
4. Open Win32Disk Imager and plug your USB stick into the netbook
5. Select your downloaded .img file (was .iso remember) and then select the letter that the netbook mounted the USB stick to
6. Click Write **ALL DATA ON THE USB STICK WILL BE LOST**
7. Open MiniTool partition wizard
8. Select your android drive and click delete at the top, then apply **ALL DATA ON THAT DRIVE WILL BE LOST**
9. Click the unallocated space and click create at the top
10. Enter the following:
Name: Android x86
Type: EXT3
Label: None
Set everything else to full or none and then click OK
11. Click Apply at the top and wait whilst it applies
12. Shut Down your netbook normally
13. Press the power button and when the "ACER" screen appears, press F2
14. Navigate to the "Boot" tab and, using F5 and F6, set USB HDD to first in the list
15. Press F10 and save and reboot
16. The Android Menu will appear. Navigate to the last option and press enter
17. The partition menu will appear. Navigate to the one labelled "Linux" and press enter
18. Format it to EXT3
19. Say yes to GRUB
20. When it says windows detected at /dev/sdaXX, SELECT YES, OR YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO BOOT BACK TO WINDOWS
21. Say yes to system read write
22. When it asks, make a fake SD card at the maximum size (default)
23. Press enter when it says reboot
24. Remove the USB from the netbook when you see the "ACER" screen
25. Select Android x86 from the GRUB menu
26. Wait for it to boot
27. ENJOY ICS Android x86!

**OPTIONAL**
Reformat USB stick back to normal:
Boot into Windows from the Grub menu
Log on and plug in USB Stick
When the prompt appears, choose format disk and do a full format to FAT32

Controls for Android x86:
"Touchscreen": Mouse pointer
Home: On screen
Back: Esc or on screen
Multitask: On screen
Menu: Context Menu (key between Alt Gr and Ctrl, to the right of SPACE) or on screen
Select: On screen click or enter and arrow keys

Works well on an HP DM4.
While you in the alley playing dice. I'm on the yacht contemplating plans for the next diamond heist.

I would love to see Android 4.0 running on my netbook (I have 2.1 IIRC and it is completely useless), but I don't know how to convert .iso files into the .img format. Could someone help me?

Thanks a lot, it worked!

The ROM has some Bloatware, but it works perfectly. I wish it would be compatible with Adobe Flash, but I'm happy with this ROM anyway.
