Default [Q] Trying to root- hang in recovery mode

Hi all,
I've been trying to root my phone for a couple of days now to no success. I used the method found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1317394

However whenever I go to recovery and pick the option "apply update to sdcard" (to get the update.zip) it will just show me the android in a box picture and nothing else. Does anyone know what's the cause of this problem?

My phone:
Build no: GINGERBREAD.DXLA2
Android version: 2.3.6
Baseband version: I8150DXKL1

Thank you very much.

Yes I did, and it gives me the list of options in recovery mode- apply update, factory reset, wipe data etc etc. But when I picked the apply update to sdcard to get the update.zip, it will just show a blank screen with the android in a box again.

Have you rooted using this CWM ?

In case you don't want to upgrade to CWM(no root required, only ODIN flashing/ADB shell), you can try flashing the stock recovery again.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I did try CWM but it gave me the same problem too, whenever I picked the option "apply update to sdcard" it will show me the CWM picture with blank screen. So I flashed back to stock ROM. Is it a hardware issue?

Forgot to mention my phone is Samsung Galaxy Wonder (GT-I8150)
