Wink Not working power button without docking or power cord

I bought TF101 april 12th 2012 5 days after I noticed that I cant power on the tablet without docking station or charger on.Besides that in certain colors in the display i`ve noticed some lines horizontal at the right side.I had an RMA.After two weeks it came from Polish service center(I live in Greece). They chnged the motherboard and the display (or a wga board-Iam not sure). Now everything it`s all right,so it`s a problem of certain motherboard and of the power switch.

Just wanted to chime in and let you guys know I'm having the same issue. I can only turn it on when it's docked/plugged in. I can't RMA it because I'm pretty sure it's out of warranty (got it last summer).

I just had an interesting experience with this problem.

I gave up on Android due to endless problems syncing with my calendar and contacts on my MacMini. I gave my wife my TF-101 with the power button problem. She took it to the dealer and it went to repair. When she got it back, the power button worked but the Thai keyboard did not (we live in Thailand). The English keyboard was fine.

She asked me to look at it and it seemed very different. I checked the setting and they had loaded 2.2 (Froyo). It was at the latest ICS when it went in and I bought it with Honeycomb. The power-on button worked when I got it. This seems to confirm my suspicions that some update along the way disabled the power-on ability unless it had external power. I'm almost positive it was an early ICS update, because I seem to remember it working with the initial ICS release.

It would be interesting to reload an early Honeycomb and see if the problems is still there.

I too had this problem. Was working THU, woke up FRI & screen would NOT come on. It was powered on if I constantly pressed the power button after about the 4-5 press, the screen would come on for a half a second & immediately go black again.

I didn't check here on the Q&A at the time if anyone else was dealing with it!

I had to RMA mine. Got it back, opened the box, hit power, it came on. I went to fiddle with the WIFI settings & accidentally hit the brightness slider. Screen went black & never powered on again unless plugged in. Same thing while unplugged & hitting power button several times. I bought this summer 2011, B40.

I had to RMA a second time, this time with ASUS footing all shipping bills. I live in Dallas & work all of 10 mins away from the Grapevine repair center & they wouldn't just let me drop it off. Anyways, this repair was finally successful. It's been working fine for a few weeks now . . . until I tried to root it again. Now I'm in a boot to recovery loop unless I cold boot it. Once I cold boot it, works fine.

Wink bootstrap wire

Hello, I have exactly the same problem. While waiting for an update or a software solution, I arranged a very simple hardware solution. You can find a picture and small explaination on my personal blog at this link (add http prefix before the link, I'm too "young" on this forum to post external URLs) ficara.altervista.org/?p=845
Hope this will be useful for someone

I'm pretty sure this is a 100% software problem .....

I've used my TF101 with Revolver3 for quite some time , an never had issues , enter Standby , exit Standby , Power Off , Power On , everything worked as expected

Upgraded to Revolver 4.1.1 , and whilst i love that ROM , since the Upgrade , I have exactly the same Issue

Enter Standby and exit Standby works fine , hard Reboot and PowerOff aswell , but as soon as the Screen has turned off after a Power Off , the only way to bring it back to life
is plug in the USB Cable , connected to Charger or PC . It just seems to ignore the button press when really powered off ... A lot of People running ICS seem to have this issue , so let's hope someone here ,or someone @ Asus will find a solution for this ...

Luckily I rarely turn it off completely , so it does not bug me too much , but still , it's annoying !

Default Any news?

Has there been any advancement on this issue? I have been pulling my hairs trying to fix this for months! I have tried every ROM or recovery there is. I think it is very strange that even flashing the old honeycomb version that did work it still refuses to turn on.

One thing I have noticed is that, without plugging it in, I can still "turn it on" in APX mode. Could this be a kernel issue? Haven't tried to flash a different kernel (if you don't count the kernels that come with every ROM).

While chatting in some TF101 specific IRC channels, they presented me with the possibility of it being a faulty battery, or loose internal cable or connection. The thing is, I have seen some videos of TF101 unmounting and it is not difficult, but since the tablet is not mine and I am not completely certain that replacing the battery will solve the problem, I'd rather not try.

I would be very interested to know if someone actually solved the issue this way.
