Default [ROM][March 12]Classicnerd Butta ICS ported to Kindle Fire. **no longer supported**

If you want to talk in IRC, I'm in here all day: http://webchat.freenode.net/?channel...d&uio=MTE9MA4c

Hello all,

Aspiring dev here, wanted to try my hand at porting a rom.

The rom I have ported is classicnerd ICS. The teams website is www.classicnerd.net. It started as a tweaked version of CM7 for the HP TouchPad, and now they have moved on to using their own source, so I thought I'd attempt to port it.

Classicnerd is mainly an AOSP rom, but with init tweaks aimed at making the UI very fluid and smooth, hence the "butta" name. Try it out, and let me know of anything that is wrong or that needs fixing etc.

When you long press the power button to bring up the power menu, DO NOT tap reboot into recovery. You'll have to unbrick your kindle. I am going to remove this option from the rom.

Credit and thanks go to:
Hashcode for his kernel (versions 0.0.1 and 0.0.2)
InterceptRaven for his modded kernel (0.0.3+)
classicnerd for the source
cyanogenmod for various tweaks in the rom
TheDoctor for trusting me with his Fire to test these roms before I release them.

I want to give a special thanks to aaricchavez for spending a lot of time with me and actually being the one to figure out what was going on with the port. Thanks!

Not working:
H/W Video decoding
USB storage (working on it)

Things to come:
Custom wallpapers (I'm aware it has HP wallpapers lol)
Correct boot animation
Further tweaks.

Bug fixes
As always, I am not responsible if it asplodes your Fire, etc etc.

PLEASE MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP IN TWRP BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE!!

Flash this in recovery like any other rom.

Please be courteous and definitely leave me feedback.

Updated OP with version 0.0.2

I'm also testing intersectRaven's kernel to see if it feels better in this rom.

Also, if anyone has any input on how to fix USB mounting, please let me know.

Presumably this is the same issues as if you reboot into recovery from the ROM in CM7 while running TWRP: the device will than not reboot back to normal mode, but instead loops into recovery every time you reboot.

If that is the case than using CWM will resolve that. The issue is in the reboot wrappers in the recovery itself not the ROM. The DooMLoRD has added a set of scripts to the ramdisk that correct the reboot wrappers so that you can properly boot back to normal mode, fastboot or recovery on command. In short; CWM should work just fine (I have not tested it yet). Basically in summation TWRP has the wrong reboot wrappers for the kindle and therefor does not re-assign the bootmode properly to remove itself from recovery.

Doomlord has the scripts in the ramdisk of his boot image he uses on his kernel?

On another note, I'm running intersectRavens kernel right now, and it seems to be working very well.

I'll be honest I don't entirely understand ramdisks lol... Having said that I know that the recovery resides in the ramdisk and the kernel utilizes the ramdisk but technically speaking the ramdisk is not part of the kernel. I know when you build a boot.img or a recovery.img both are accompanied with a ramdisk so I would assume that the recovery and normal boot functions exist in separate locations of the ramdis, subsequently it doesn't matter what kernel you are using so long as you flash the correct recovery.img

DooMLoRD has all the scripts needed in the ramdisk files in his recovery tree

I imported the bootable_recovery part of that to my CM7 manifest and the parts needed for the ramdisk (the reboot wrappers primarily) I imported into my device tree for the kindle

Basically the point is you should be able to reboot out of recovery if you are using CWM and you chose recovery from the ROM

Here is the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1527046

I was wondering if you can remove all the posts from #3 all the way to #123, as all these posts are just me and some other users attempting to get the port booting. Now that it's fixed, I'd love to have the thread cleaned up if that's not to much trouble. Thanks!
Kinda reset

cheers
