Hi all, forum newbie here. Just want to be sure I'm clear on using the Visual Voicemail app. I downloaded it to my stock AT&T LTE Note, unzipped & installed fine.
When I launch the app, it asks me to call my VM. I do, then tap [asterisk] twice to hang up the call. I can't post screenshots here yet, but that generates VVM setup screen #1, which reads:
"Account Setup. Welcome to AT&T Visual Voicemail. To complete your Visual Voicemail setup, please call Voicemail."
I tap the Call Voicemail button. That doesn't call my voicemail (in the usual sense), but generates VVM setup screen #2, which reads:
"Account Setup, Please wait. Setting up your account."
That churns for a minute or so, then I get setup screen #3:
"An account verifications has not been received yet.
"Verify your network connectivity.
"Call your Voicemail again, and make sure that you enter the voicemail successfully.
"Contact support to verify that your Visual Voicemail service is activated."
So, if I understand the threads about this service:
- The Visual Voicemail app is ATT's UI for a service which they have to initiate on a user's account. Correct? I.e., it's a toggle/whatever at their end?
- VVM is available to stock ATT LTE Note users? Or must I root to have access to the service?
When I called 611 about this process, the ATT rep said VVM is available only through their AT&T Messages app. (I didn't tell him about threads on this forum which warn users away from that app; I haven't installed it.) "You do all the setup at your end," he said.
So, for those of you who have set up the Visual Voicemail app:
Did you have to go through an ATT rep to initialize the service at their end?
Any advice on what to tell future reps to make it clear what I need to start up VVM using the Visual Voicemail app?
(Dealing with these people has so far not given me great confidence in their autonomy or critical-thinking skills.)
TIA for any wisdom. I'm an Android newbie, but totally digging the Note, & 2.3.6.
