Yeah, I know, just figured as long as we're idly speculating, I'd toss that in the mix. And I don't even think I'd upgrade, since the high-res screen will impact performance.

+1

That's a good idea, so is backplate replacement. Forget the voucher.

DONATE TO ME
Default My thoughts Gary.

This was my first tablet ever! I had been reading about months before it was available. When I tried to find one, everyone was saying they were discontinued. The truth was they were not even shipped yet.
Then low and behold I found one on Amazon. I had already made a buying decision, and ordered one, has it turned out, from one of Amazons other merchants. I had to order the keyboard the same day from yet another one of Amazons other merchants.
I received them general post in three days! I was excited. I opened the the package and read the instructions, followed them to the tee and finally turned the device on. First thing I noticed was some screen bleed on the black Asus boot screen. I figured I could live with that since you could not see it once you were to the desktop unless you use a very black background with strong back light intensity. Before the updates there was a little screen flickering which I also figured would work itself out with future updates, and it has! Then I tried the GPS, it worked but was very weak and I knew I would not be able to use it for driving navigation, I was a little disappointed, but then really disappointed when you just swept the problem out of the specs. I really wanted to love this first time tablet experience. Especially after shelling out nearly nine hundred dollars! Then I tried the WiFi and noticed the signal was very sub-par. After a few updates there was an improvement but still not worth the $800. Only paid four hundred for my HTC amaze phone and it's WiFi is through the roof. Again I was a little disappointed, enough to follow all the threads in this forum and others to see if anyone knew of a fix/recall or whatever that actually worked. I have only seen a couple and they all ended in total refunds. I feel like Asus robbed me and really does not care how hard I worked for that money and how much aggravation I have endured hoping that all this could somehow be rectified.
I really do want to love the device but I feel very cheated and mislead. I know these are problems you can sometimes expect when you are an early adapter to any new technology, but even Ford does recalls when there is a manufacturing problem, and they do there best to actually fix the problem not say it never existed. Now I'm also noticing that my battery drain with keyboard is way below what was listed in the specs, not that I expected it to be as good as they suggest, I do use smartphones and they never line up to there specs talk time and such, but at least with them you can get replacement batteries and carry spares along with universally excepted USB power adapters so you can charge them just about anywhere; Vehicles, Computers, wall outlets, etc. Even with all these shortcomings I would be sad to let this tablet go, probably because it's my first and I still hope that Asus will do the right thing. Refund or Recall or discount a future product for those of us that were early adapters who have not plagued you with thousands of RMA's and exchanges and falsified posts and bad mouthing s. You have the power to make all this right and you should not fail to do so or you will lose many supporters in the future. They way it looks to me right now is that Asus does not care much about the end consumer and feels they can release a promised feature product and then just remove features after the fact. Maybe I just got a bad one but it does work, just not at all as expected. This should be cause enough for you to contact me. Awaiting your reply. H. Vincent Veith. Cleveland, OH.

First of all why do we only have a marketing rep on the forums and not a professional technical support rep. from Asus on the forums also, thanks for that information.

It is Nice to have Gary around but I have to call B.S. on some of what he says and I call it how it is. Do you really think other tablet manufacturers are sending the amount of people we see on here having issues just to say that they have problems with the Prime? They, the competition don't even have any products out yet, with a Tegra 3! Maybe a few possibly that do that, but not to the extent that we have seen on here. I myself have gone through several Primes for me and my family together, and not one has worked as it was suppose to. I can assure you I'm not from apple, or the competition, are we getting, paranoid. lol.

The 1% of returns might be units that simply just don't turn on or do anything at all DOA units maybe I will go for that 1%, now I could believe that. but 1% as a whole nah I would put both my primes that are coming this week on that, they probably wont work as they are suppose to anyways, and that sucks this buying and returning is getting old. Like I have said in previous threads run a commercial about the primes issues then lets really see what the number is, most people, the average user, just don't know they have a defective unit. I do have a question if you will answer it Gary will the original tf201 Prime dock work with the 300 and 700 models?

I like the Prime I just want one that works as it is suppose to. I will keep returning until I get a solid unit. Gary please let us know when the refurbished units will be put out for sale, I know there has got to be thousands, maybe hundred thousands. If I'm correct you can't sell them as new again, so I guess some people will get a prime for around $350-$375 refurbished? My last unit did not look Brand new, it looked refurbished! Selling them as new when they are opened box is illegal, right?

Again, the average users will not know the difference or know what to look for, but this doesn't excuse the fact that the problem does exist. Most people didn't know the Ford Pinto would explode if it got hit from the rear, but Ford did, and while this is not a case of people getting injured or killed, but the result is the same, if a company knows that a product had a defect, i.e. the GPS you should fix the problem, not make the spec. magically disappear. The right thing to do is apologize, engineer a fix, swallow the expense and learn a lesson and move on, not sweep it under the rug and fix it on the next product released.

I would have a lot more respect for ASUS if they would have chosen the right way to fix the problem, not the least costly to the Share Holders.

Also, many people here on this forum think with you being Technical Marketing Manager, you are just here to do damage control and tell users anything, including lies or misleading info. I personally, and probably a lot more users also, never got that impression from you or have seen evidence of that actually occurring. I for one am glad you came to help out on the forums. Regardless if it was voluntary or if after the issues started popping up. It doesn't matter. What does matter is that Asus is showing that they are trying Tonto the extra mile and work with users on the issues. I know it’s not possible to help everyone else at once. That’s why some may feel like you haven't addressed them fast enough. Sorting these issues out takes time. plus add in all the false reports, misleading info, and people trying to take advantage of situation and all that only delays things even more so.
Agree I personally am glad Gary is on here but his numbers don't pan out, "it is what it is". Again are we getting schizophrenic or paranoid? lol. What is that magic number where they have to do a mandatory recall according to FCC or SEC guidelines? I'm pretty sure we are close, and the number goes up every day.

@Gary
How is it that someone has the WiFi - BT issue and then when it gets sent in Asus, you test it and there is no problem? Is this to keep that number of rejects down? Or is Asus's quality control and product requirements that much different than ours in the community, serious question? So they say it’s OK to release it because it has WiFi and shows at least something on the status bar and WiFi analyzer shows at least something even if it is a really weak signal, and we get 1mb/s download while in BT mode, but while BT is turned off we get 15mb/s download? Is that OK for Asus standards, do they consider that acceptable for release? I seriously want to know if you - Gary can answer that question, what is the acceptable requirements at Asus with WiFi and BT running together, and the WiFi status how far am I suppose to be able to take my Prime from my router, no walls nothing in the way, is it suppose to reach 20FT 50FT more less. These are serious questions that I would like to know, I'm sure others on the forum and in the community would also like to know. Please tell us, will you? I will wait for your answer.

Gary, you might want to have someone look into your RMA process. I have not received my rma email in over 24 hours, there is no reason for an email to take over 24 hours in this day and age. Number to you might want to act fast and look into a issue with screens cracking from being docked. My wife's screen cracked in the upper left corner while docked, I sent you two pm's about it but heard nothing back on the issue. I am now scared to leave my prime docked as the same issue may happen to my prime. We paid good money for these units and deserve fast service for issues we did not create. Your company needs to look at this from the costumer’s side of the issue also. I hope Asus learns a valuable lesson from this troubled product launch.........Brian
That might be the reason why they are making the 700 with the new gorilla glass 2 an upgraded cornering gorilla glass? Which is a good idea IMO.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

That being said, there are still areas (details but a lot of them) that could be improved.

I had a great experience in dealing with Hai Trat too, in other words, what a customer expect from a company, +1.

However, as soon as I was transfered to the RMA deparment (Canada) I got a generic copy pasted RMA proceedure taken from the web site (with clickable links that weren't clickable and a terrible layout). In that RMA notice it clearly stated that "Asus does not refund any product under any circumstances" which went totaly against the point of my RMA. You can certainly understand how this could raise concerns on your costumer end. Hai was not CCd on this email and half of our exchange wasn't "on file" either.

I did get the RMA label quickly, Purolator, but the same person rushed the email and added that I could reach UPS if I had any questions that a 1800 #.. the tag is for Purolator. Ok, no biggie, but still, lack of consistence.

I'll be sending my Prime back to Asus for a refund tomorrow, hoping that it all goes well. To be honest, I can't wait to buy another one that works as intended, it is an awesome machine.

What, were you hoping to keep them, and/or maybe return them where you bought them and make a little profit? Your story is full of holes...

I dont get you people^^ Asus sends someone to talk to us and give us help and updates. That alone is awesome, dont you think? Still there is so much bashing going on.. I just dont get it if you dont like the prime why do you still have it? If mine was **** i'd have already sold it and waiting for the infinity tab.

All this energy spent on crying and thinking about conspiracy theories and hoping for Asus somehow giving you a free infinity pad when it comes out. Sry but lol.

-Be happy with your prime, let it put a smile on your face by playing around with those awesome emulators. Read some good comics on it. Watch some HIMYM.
-Dont like it or have issues? Send it to RMA, or bring it back, or sell it on xxx.
-If you do get rid of it, be prepared that the next tablet you buy will have similar or different issues.
-Get real and go to the Zoo to have some fun (bring your prime and take some fotos!) instead of crying and blaming some company who is trying their best to keep their customers happy and providing updates asap. There are so many companies that give a **** about you. They take your money and never upgrade or support their devices.

Sorry if this sounds harsh - i dont take this whole thing as serious as others i guess Its just a gadget, it wasnt even that expensive if i think about all the amazing things i can do with it. It is my dvd/movie player, my n64, my psX, my Comicbook, my Musicbox ... ... Hell it even reads me bedtime stories if i want to.
Chill Get your wife some serious orgasms! Thats about 100x more important than getting your prime "fixed" and crying for free "updates" to the next asus tablet - that probably will have issues of its own...

Still looking forward to the time when this becomes a DEV forum again - and this place here being filled with DEV related posts.

Now plz do flame me.

A lot of these negatives are coming from crapple fans because they are jealous that their icrap 3 is still not up to what we can do with our primes........I just ignore the crap.....
