Thank you for the new kernel. Just flashed it together with fxp 122. The batterylife of 2.7 was fantastic. With your kernels cm7.2 is ready for daily use.

Will you make kernels for cm9 now?

For now, i don't think i will. I think fxp cm9 kernel will evolve and get better as the rom itself being developed. Or maybe they will upgrade it to kernel 3.0. I'll just sit back and wait

hey dev, one quick question: what do you say the best i/o scheduler? i'm running cm 7 n currently i/o scheduler is set at vr. fyi, i'm not too much into multitasks. so, what do you think?

thanks so much in advance.

There is a very good thread by droidphile about i/o schedulers and cpu governors here. I/o schedulers are explained in post #4.
Personally i used noop or sio, but i never made real comparisons about performance or battery drain between i/o schedulers. So i can't say which is the best. It seems each has advantages and disadvantages, so you have to choose which suits your needs.
Also, there are a lot of infos in that thread about governors, and how to tweak them for performance or battery life. Few things are specific to galaxy s II, but many things are relevant to our devices too

Battery life of this kernel is much better than 2.8. Thanks

Reading the announcement post and recent posts still makes me doubt if v2.9 is based on v2.7 or v2.8.
Could somebody shed some light on this?

I suppose 2.8 (but if someone could confirm...), because it applies the same frequency.

On my mini (St15i) with CM7.2 RC3 20120526 (on get.cm), I have the best batterylife with Rage 2.7.
Battery drain is more important with 2.8 & 2.9 (even in idle..) :/

(Sorry for my English..)

I always understood that 2.8 idle usage is less than 2.7 idle usage, but that active usage is heigher in 2.8.

That is also the background of my question, because I prefer a as low as possible idle usage.

For further infos you should follow the original rage kernel thread.
2.9 is based on 2.8 with optimized governors.

I am currently testing and comparing 2.9 with 2.7.
Today 2.9, tomorrow 2.7.
Well. 2.9 seems fine. As dumohsmol suggests, smartassV2 seems best ogevernor for 2.9 (was running ondemand - my preferred - but in this smartassv2/ondemand comparison it lost). Idle behavior is very good, also with some background data running. But as well as in 2.8 the cpu workload is a bit higher than in 2.7. But all in all it feels smoother. But it seems the low consumption in idle now eats the usage drain But this is very depending on YOUR usage.

will report later.

It's based on 2.8. Most changes are tweaks in governors, so they suit the cpu freq table of 2.8.
