I'm definitely a bit hooked on the 720p screen honestly. The 16 gigs doesn't matter to me too much, but I like the back up capabilities of having a micro SD. However, that being said we have 25 gb of DropBox storage for free for 2 years. Basically, all signs point towards me not settling for a lower quality phone just because I'm impatient.

Now I'm not sure what I'm going to do as far as X or XL. All of the development is going to be on the X... XL is getting the shaft here.

I'm in the same boat. I'm leaning towards the XL, though. Here's why: the LTE will put my throttling limit up to 5GB/month instead of 3GB. HTC is also releasing an international version of the XL, so I would expect that there will be decent development on the XL as well.
A phone and a tablet. What's it to you?

I hope that someone comes in, takes all the development from the X, and finds a way to convert the ROMs to be usable on the XL. Fingers crossed.

I believe it's going to take a developer to manually convert. Unfortunately it's probably going to differ in more areas than just kernel and radio/RIL files, unfortunately. The build fingerprints have to be different because of the different compatibilities, the build.prop file has to be rebuilt, all references that would be Tegra-specific would have to be scrubbed and rebuilt with Snapdragon S4 in mind.

It would take a lot of work, but it should be doable. I personally wouldn't bank on it though, I think devs would most likely make a clean-sheet version for both phones, much like how the Galaxy Nexus LTE and Galaxy Nexus GSM would have different ROMs.

I kind of wish that they could do it in such a way like overloading methods in basic coding. Put all of it into one ROM, but once it detects that it has an S4, it uses resources applicable to that and so on.

Some cooks may choose to do that, others may put up specific phone versions to reduce the amount of data downloaded.

DONATE TO ME
One version of the X is going to be far more active than the other I have a feeling, although I'm not saying either will be a dud by any means.

just by looking at previous time tracks, i'd say very early april.

the note passed fcc jan 22 and came feb 19
the evo 3d did similar, fcc the 2nd of june, came june 24th
my atrix did similar but i forget the dates exactly

so...if this passed fcc early march, i'd say early april.

the problem is no one knows if the lte version passed was at&ts...but why would they change it again?
lg incite-sucked --> htc pure-rocked --> iphone 4-sucked --> captivate-rocked --> atrix-rocked --> samsung note was ok --> htc one x rocks AND iconia a500 rocks so far
