DVD Playing via USB

Has anyone managed to get this to work?
I have a USB DVD drive for my netbook and I'm trying to make it play a DVD but it won't mount. Is there any way to force it?

I think the USB host controller the G9 has is to simple to be able to do DVD's and CD's. I think its only meant to be able to read flash drives and hard drives, plus work with simple input devices.
