Default XPERIA S color banding an issue?!

Hey guys

I got my XPERIA S from Expansys USA this wed, and so far im loving it! but noticed some application have a very noticeable color banding issue such as XDA app! Is anybody experiencing this?

I have attached a snapshot of XDA and Hulu Splash screen from my phone

Well I think it's more a users created bitmap issue as a display one...

Could be due to high resolution. Most of the apps images are build for standard resolution.

Lack of high res apps might be one of the reasons but yeah the phone has 720p screen and 16m colors !

true...but if the resolution of the image isn't there, it's not there :P notice the pixelation as well on those examples? They just don't scale well...

Exactly, as well as some apps are just not written for this screen resolution
like Photobucket.

My banding is a lot worse than yours.



Even my 2 year old desire looks much better than this. Anyone having same issue?

It's not an issue in the phone. It's an issue in the app using a low-quality image.

Your 2 year old desire does not have a high enough resolution or color depth to show this, but if it did, you would see the same thing.

I'm actually more concerned with why my screen looks so different from kdadone's. Same phone and same application.. His pic looks at least much more acceptable than mine.

Does using the root image from development section affect anything in terms of 'display driver' that renders the screen?

I have exactly the same as you have. I think his is the same as well, just resized to a smaller version. Think the resize smooths it out a bit.
