Thanks for your effort but the phone won't even boot and refuses to charge (only the red light blinks on the upper corner). I contacted the local repair service and now I'm waiting for their reply.

the apk gets saved along with backups that you create in "sdcard/HuaweiBackup/AllBackupV4.1.08.apk" at least for me. check if you can find it there else I'll upload it for you.

Hi, I am new to Android. I have a question, for U8860, you root by installing the su-3.0.3.2-signed.zip file right? So do I have to uninstall su-3.0.3.2-signed.zip to unroot my phone? If so, how do I do so? I don't see an uninstall option in the recovery menu.

And for the new B977 version for U8860, the only way to enable Google apps is by installing gapps-ics-20120317-signed.zip right? Is it possible to root my phone, install the Google apps package and then unroot it?

No, you can not uninstall a zip file. All that the recovery does is to unpack it into the root folder (and overwrites existing files there). You only need the recovery for this unpacking for two reasons:
1.) For security reasons some filesystems are mounted as read-only while the normal operation (on rooted android systems that are don't have the "production-build-flag" set to true you can remount everything to read-write mode)
2.) Some system files are always in use when you have booted android, you can not delete/overwrite them in normal operation.

For the chinese stock ROM I believe this is true. Why do you want to root and unroot your device? as far as I know you don't need root permissions for flashing the gapps package and enable them by dialing *147258369#

I read from here that flashing the Google apps package in a non rooted Honor (Version B977) does not work anymore (Post #95). I did not try though.

Hmm, me neither, sorry. I have to admit that I have no big interest in non-rooted devices
