Whats the need to root?

Honestly i dont think ill root this phone for a long time. There seems nothing wrong with it

You don't root because there is a problem. Awesome apps is the reason.

Like 70% of the most awesome things on android need root access :P
Things like Sixaxis Controller for example

More examples would be good... I'm not 100% sure why on a stock device I would need root?

Looking at my Xoom which I have a custom ROM and Root on. There are only 4 apps with root privileges

CIFSManager - Allows me to connect to network storage, not 100% sure I would need / want this on my phone.

Mizuu - Movies Database which works with out root there is just one small feature that if you want to use requires root.

Root Explorer - File manager that again works with out root, root is only needed if you want to access system areas.

SetCPU - For overclocking and if your just running stock then I guess you wont be wanting to overclock.


PS: 131 apps / 4 require root = 3% (if 70% of the most awesome things on android need root then I'm missing a lot please help me!)

I didn't say 70% of the apps need root access :P I just said that 70% of the really cool stuff needs root Stuff you can't do with an iPhone

Titanium Backup anyone? I'' backup my HTC Sensation (well all the user apps) and restore them on the One X. AdAway is another reason.

Other than that I don't really need it for daily use.

This was a question raised on the CyanogenMod G+ page. The reality is that most people don't need ROOT. Some people shouldn't have ROOT.

Without Root you can't flash a Custom recovery (easily) and without a Recovery you can't flash good patches/themes or Custom ROM's.

Well you can root and have awesome apps but you don't need to install ROMs if you don't want to. But apps like titanium backup or root explorer are definitely worth it.

you remove bad apps that waste battery with root.
