Corrupted Memory

I have a samsung galaxy s2 mobile phone with internal memory of 32 gb when i formatted my galaxy s2 from settings , its total internal memory available decreased to that which was free before the format. please can you suggest me what could have happened and how can i recover my memory, i lost about 12 gb

you phone is rooted?

no ! it is as it is i bought
