Yes, it absolutely is possible, and I've done it dozens of times. For heimdall do:

heimdall flash --kernel ./boot.img

It will upload and your phone will reboot. You'll have the yellow triangle since you flashed an unofficial kernel, but it will absolutely work. You do not have to create a flashable zip or anything, just use the raw boot.img file.

Hey does anyone use calks format all zip when flashing this rom? I remember when these aosp roms first came out u weren't suppose to use it cause u weren't suppose to wipe the system. I wondering cause I have some small problems with the rom so I was gonna do a fresh install

I use the format all every time. For some reason, it is the only way that flashing an aosp rom works on my phone.

Also not sure if it has any effect as i do not keep mine transparent but have you tried removing the shadows from top and bottom?

With and without shadows.. there is a difference.. also transperency works best with light backgrounds..

Edit: no im not on aokp.. just used the wallpaper to show the transparency :)
