Good work Closeone! I was able to use Core2Usb to load/boot your TinyCore Linux off my thumbdrive and see what all the fuss is about. Looks good.

I've been walking someone thru the downgrade over at sdx (started here), and man have they had almost every problem you could run into (perma bricked once, security warning, getting bricked, revolutionary s-off, radio update, handsfree activation/ "Error16" (currently).

So I stumbled on some old threads that are helpful again (maybe add your OP) :

- wwjoshdew's How To Root The HTC EVO 3D (w/ YouTube video!)
using fw 1.13.651.7 & revolutionary for S-Off & flash CWM 4.0.1.4 (5mins in he gets the "error16")

- ProductF(red)'s [FIX] How To Fix Error 16
This apparently happens occasionally after running Revolutionary.

Default Thanks!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Took about two hours total to brief over the instructions, prep everything, download, and do the downgrade. I could re-do it in about 30 minutes now though!!! This live cd helped so much! I burned it on my last DVD haha, putting 280mb on a 4GB disc, such a waste. But not really!

I recommend everyone to do this! It's fast, simple, and easy.

I now have Hboot 1.4 s-off, fully rooted and ready to go! THANKS AGAIN!!!

This worked great. Took a couple tries unplugging the power at the right time.

The video was weird though. I'd have completely black screen, until I hit a button then I could see the text. Everything would stay up for ~1 second and go black again until I hit any button again. Annoying, but everything worked perfectly. I was using the 27mb file off a USB.

The biggest issue I ran into was my fault because I didn't have the fastboot drivers installed on the computer I was working on and the RUU exe wasn't finding my device. It was a breeze once I realized that was the problem.

Thanks. It may not be a pretty as it was before, but this cuts out almost all of the unnecessary stuff that was in the old version, and makes this part (almost) one-keystroke, plus adds the ability to flash recovery. There should be more coming soon... That's all I'll say for now.

Ouch. I'm sorry that it was so bumpy for this individual. Never knew about the Error 16 issue.

Forgive the weird video issue. I'm happy that everything worked in the long run. Just curious, did you run Core2USB to put the software on your flash drive, or another bootable USB Flash Drive utility?

Thanks,
~co~

I am happy to help whenever I can.
If I make a mistake, I do sincerely apologize.

If I have helped you, let me know! It means a lot, and I love to hear it.

I used the utility in the post, and renamed the file like it originally said.

About to try the latest version of this downgrade kit using the usb flash drive method for my friend's phone.

Can someone please tell me if I still need to download the 2 RUU files to downgrade as was required by the CD method if I'm using the smaller usb flash method?

Also any other tips to make this as painless as possible?

Thanks!
