Tutorial [UNBRICK] Restore the Internal Partitions of your NT [SUPPORT][VIDEOS][8/16GB NT]

Good day Nook Tablet users! I've decided to make these Video-Tutorials as i see many of you have bricked your device and also because i know there will be many of you that don't even know where to start following written instructions, reason why you will see below a video to install Ubuntu, SDK and ADB.

This Thread is NOOB-FRIENDLY and is meant to give support so please take the information given in here, process it and use it to help others!

~ NT UNBRICK VIDEO-TUTORIAL ~

My Youtube Channel: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL216837379418927A

Restore the Internal Partitions of your NOOK TABLET

Completely bricked 16GB NT? wiped all the partition table? dead nook :'( ?
... you've got to try this

  • [HOW-TO] Install Ubuntu 11.10 in VirtualBox + Install Guest Additions
  • [HOW-TO] Install SDK/ADB tools in Ubuntu + Workaround for when ADB doesn't work
  • [HOW-TO] Use "dd" command to flash the partition images that might help you Unbrick your Nook Tablet
  • [HOW-TO] Recreate/Repartition media & userdata back to stock in the Nook Tablet

INTERNAL PARTITIONS:
File System Name => Part. Block

xloader => mmcblk0p1

bootloader => mmcblk0p2

recovery => mmcblk0p3

boot => mmcblk0p4

rom => mmcblk0p5

bootdata => mmcblk0p6

factory => mmcblk0p7

system => mmcblk0p8

cache => mmcblk0p9

media => mmcblk0p10

userdata => mmcblk0p11

OPTION #1: Flashing partitions 1-4 and 6 from CWM sdcard

1. Follow my instructions posted here to create a bootable CWM sdcard
2. Download flash_restore_8gb_partitions_1-4&6.zip | flash_restore_16gb_partitions_1-4&6.zip and copy the file to your sdcard aswell.
3. Boot into CWM sdcard and flash the .zip file you copied previously
4. Long press power button to power off your Noook tablet and remove your sdcard
5. Download nooktablet_1_4_2_update.zip
6. Put your sdcard back in your PC, format it with fat32 file system and set the primary partition to "Active" on windows (LBA: boot on Linux)

7. Copy nooktablet_1_4_2_update.zip to your empty sdcard, once done safely eject your sdcard and put it back into your Nook Tablet
8. Power on your device. The nooktablet_1_4_2_update.zip should flash now and you will be back to purely out-of-the-box stock. That if your brick is not that bad!

OPTION #2: Flashing internal partitions manually

* Use only the partition(s) needed, there is not need to use them all if you just formatted 1 partition "mistakenly"

1. Follow my instructions posted here to create a bootable CWM sdcard
2. Boot into CWM sdcard
3. Install ADB if you haven't and make sure your device is recognized!
4. Open a Terminal and issue the following commands:
Code:
$ adb devices
make sure your device's serial ID shows up
Code:
$ adb shell
~# mount sdcard
~# dd if=/sdcard/mmcblk0p1 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p1
~# dd if=/sdcard/mmcblk0p2 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2
~# dd if=/sdcard/mmcblk0p4 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4
~# dd if=/sdcard/mmcblk0p6 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6
~# dd if=/sdcard/mmcblk0p7 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p7 bs=4096
* mmcblk0p5 partition keeps your original serial ID's and MAC address so is better for you to backup your rom partition so you get your info intact once you unbrick your device
Code:
~$ adb shell
~# mount sdcard
~# dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5 of=/sdcard/mmcblk0p5

okey soo I tried to dd the partitions cache and bootdata (these are probably the ones who are corrupt) and they always got me an error, saying that there is no space left on the device....

EDIT: I also can't format the partition

Can you run parted and post your partition table?

Default I'm Back!

Veronica,

You rock! Everything is cool! Great tutorials. I missed some of the steps a couple of weeks ago. Anyway's, needed to say thanks for all your patience. Just think if you had lived next door you could have fixed my NT in 30 minutes instead of me taking 30 days) The solid thing is though I learned some linux and other stuff along the way.

You people in xda land need to pay attention to this lady.

Nice day/night!

Peace!

my problem is that I can't push your mmcblk0px images to my internal storage because it always gives me the "no space left on device" error. IS there maybe some way to format a partition through adb ?

With adb not really but you can do things with parted (though the version provided is old).

Do you get an error when you want to format? also do you still get a notification in parted that your partitions are damaged?

Edit: I'll get back to you tomorrow. Good night/day
