You're right the HTC Dev method is not that bad. Except, sprint kknows if you rooted or not. Voiding your warranty to a value of Zero. :b But if you're smart, nothing should happen to make you want to return the phone, Am I Rite?
I was S-off the day Revolutionary was dropped but recently updated to HBOOT 1.50 and unlocked via HTCDev and it was painless. I also did a couple s- On HBOOT 1.50 devices and honestly, dealing with Flash Image GUI to do kernels is painless as well and fast boot was easy if you did the HTCDev unlock.
As for the voiding... Sprint will know nothing, HTC knows BUT Sprint will service your rooted device just like a non-rooted if you so choose to take to them in that state. Peraonally, I NEVER take or even talk about rooting if I have to go to a brick and mortar. You will only get that "zero" value if you brick it and don't have any insurance or service coverage (TEP) coverage by Sprint/Assurion and actually have to send to HTC for service and I don't know about you, but when is the last time you heard of someone actually dealing with the MFG directly on a warranty issue?
Well I see the conversation really got sparked, I'm glad everyone is at least being respectful. People exchanging information and opinions is always a good thing in my book.
The main reason I'm pretty sure I will leave HTC is because I don't want devs wasting their time (weeks, or months?) trying to come up with a way to break HTC's phone apart. I want devs spending their time working on improving the phone with tweaks and custom ROMs. And I don't want it to be "noob-proof" requiring me do go through a pain in the ass process on my computer at home. This is Android, things are supposed to be easy and painfree.
I'm not a Samsung fanboy (my first Android was the Epic 4G and I hated that damn thing with its buggy 2.1 and almost non-existant updates). I switched to HTC because I saw that the OG Evo community was pretty awesome. I'm not knocking what we have here, but I think it would be a lot better without HTC's restrictions. HTC's policies are not exactly dev-friendly. Yes, the next one will still have devs. Just about every phone does these days. But at what point do devs get tired of having to circumvent all these asanine restrictions just to do what they enjoy, especially when they could start developing on day one with a different phone?
I hope the next Evo does well, because I know a lot of you all will be upgrading to it. I hope it does well because its still Android and I really enjoy this OS. But I hope that you are all very cautious when upgrading because it has the potential to be a very bumpy road due to HTC turning their back on this community.
Couldn't have said it better myself. I think we all can agree that whatever our next phone is, it's going to be one heck of a beast.

I completely forgot about the aluminum. That should definitely give it a nice weight and feel.

Yes sir, I think it will be better in hand than the one x, but I want a matte black where the gloss is... Anyway all this is pure speculation minus the aluminum
Edit: phonescoop says the 4glte is lighter?? Oh well

Sprints new policy is that they have to fix rooted fones if they are under the 1 yr warranty or you have tep on your account, so the htc dev shouldn't be an issue. oh and for root, we have a good chance with juopunutbear's method because we have a sd card and the one x didn't
Toast is huge AND hugely respected (rightfully so) but he didn't gain root/s- off on the 3D so speculating that because he "may not" be on board means it's going to take forever OR won't happen at all is a bit far fetched wouldn't you say?
Now if the Unrevoked and Alpharev (they brought us permanent root and #- off the end if July last year) crews say they doubt it'll ever happen, well, maybe it will take a VERY long time but placing wild assumptions on this or that are just.... assumptions.
Even if they get a full unlock, you still have the problem of HTC using closed source drivers on very proprietary hardware. This is the main reason for the inactivity in the Evo 3D developer community.

Evo LTE won't be any different.
I'm still missing the "inactivity" in the community? Where is this community you speak of?
I'm actually even more excited for the 4G LTE now after reading the AT&T One X reviews. It's everything that phone is, + a larger battery, + microSD slot, + physical camera button, + a kickstand. Should really be a great phone.
Same here.... It was about a 2 month before we got S-off and permanent root IIRC and we had temp root the first month I think.
Interesting "FACTS" people have around here.... LOL
Oh, fact of the matter is, the exploit was revealed by the Dev doing his/their due diligence because the exploit was a pretty big hole. There is usually an exploit when we get these devices, the usually get patched, then we usually get another shot once a new OS version is released. No one thought the encrypted bootloader was going to be cracked on the 3D but it didn't stop all of us from getting it and in the end, we got it squared away from our genius Dev communities.

FACT: As the transcendent M.U.G.E.N GOD, I can't guarantee Toast will get the EVO LTE. Once you go sense, you can't go back.
I'm excited to see the EVO reviews after reading the one x reviews with the s4
Get a 3000mah batt in w the s4 n I don't think anyone would care about built in batt

I would expect that to be a problem anywhere else that has the things added HTC does....you can't expect a full out beats source release of their driver...same for the camera features...
XDA Developers was founded by developers, for developers. It is now a valuable resource for people who want to make the most of their mobile devices, from customizing the look and feel to adding new functionality. Are you a developer?
