My quick phone history
1. Samsung sph i330 (palm 3.0 or .5 don't remember)
2. ppc 6700
3. HTC touch pro 2 (current Phone)

All of these phones have been great, and as you can see once I find something I like I stick with it.

Okay Debbie, did you switch? What do you think of android?
Yes, I'm using a HTC Desire Z now. So far, I love it! I've learned where to find things and how to get most of what I need done with the stock ROM, however, I'm down-right CHICKEN to attempt to root, S-Off, flash custom ROMs, etc., like I was with Windows Mobile. I just don't feel confident enough to risk bricking my device with a stupid mistake.

Android is a whole different wild animal to me and I just can seem to grasp the new terminology to my satisfaction yet. I'm no techie by any stretch, just a user who began my PDA life with WM and watched it evolve (HTC Wallaby, HTC Blue Angel, HTC Kaiser, & HTC Rhodium -- now an HTC Vision... HTC obsessed perhaps? LOL!). I was very comfortable with the WM OS and knew my way around flashing, tweeks, registry edits, etc. I've got absolutely no clue where to begin with my Vision! I feel like I'm trying to learn Chinese by myself, for Pete's sake... The more I read on my own, the more confused I've become.

On a positive note, I'm not completely intimidated by Android, as haven't gone back to my Rhodium yet, but I won't be truly "one" with my new Android device until I understand what the heck people are talking about. LOL! The oddest things that I find that I miss from my Rhodium is the ability to use my fingernails to click on small links (can't do that with this capacitive screen), the tilt screen (damn, that thing was handy!), and the transition from directional keys on a hard keyboard to having to use a track pad (it never seems to go where I need it to quickly, like just moving cursor keys did). But those are more device hardware criticisms having nothing to do with the OS.

Not a very technical analysis of the platform by any means, but I hope that I've helped alleviate some of your hesitation in making a decision that's best for you.

Thanks all for the input. I finally did it, I picked up my Galaxy S III yesterday. So far so good, of course I have no idea what I'm doing with it yet. But I'll learn I'm sure. I'll post again after a few weeks with an update for others that may be looking to make the switch

Default Conclusion

Okay here is the conclusion. For anyone else thinking about switching to android, stop your tireless research and DO IT.
After a week I got used to the on screen keyboard, and don't really miss my stylus all that much.

With Windows I could and did change & customise anything and everything (with the help of the awesome people here in the XDA forum).

With Android (Galaxy S III) I can also do the same, but don't need to. It's already set up the way I would have done it myself. Not to mention the massive amount of apps that are at your fingertips. Think about every commercial you see "available on I Crap & Android", now think how many of those commercials say available on windows phone.

With anything else I thought I would miss about Win. I have found free apps to take the place or fill the void. Bottom line Make the switch you'll be glad you did. Also I recommend The Samsung Galaxy S 3. This phone is incredible.

PS: get a G-mail account, sync your Win device with gmail, then on your new android device just sign in to G-mail and sync. All your contacts flawlessly transfer, and now you wont need Outlook any more.

The only thing I miss from my a win mobile was the voice control. I would name a song and my Omnia would play it via Bluetooth. Have not seem this with Android yet.

Hold the search key (or if you have a button on the bluetooth that'll activate voice search, use that) and say "Listen to <song name>." You can also say an artist, but it'll bring up a list instead of playing a random song, in my experience. Not all music players support it, but the stock android one does, and it works perfectly on the Captivate Glide. You can even pick the default app to use, I know that Play Music and Youtube are supported, I don't have anything else installed offhand to try.

Not bad but not as good as the one from windows mobile.if screen is locked in Android I can not use hot key on Bluetooth as well.
