Got the dreaded QHSUSB_DLOAD, booting into Ubuntu to try step 2 of Unknownforce's guide

I got this error and after unplugging, my phone was bricked. Unknownforce's downgrade live CD brought my phone back to life though.

I rooted my HTC EVO 3D using the HTC dev unlock method. Once done I decided to install a custom ROM I can't remember which one, and my phone got stuck on the splash screen. I can go into recovery (TWRP 2.0) but everytime I try to flash a new rom it doesn't flash and it goes back to the HTC screen. Could it be possible that my phone is bricked? If so, will doing this revert it back to stock and unbrick it? Sorry i'm a noob at all this and admit I shouldn't have messed with any of it in the first place. Any help is greatly appreciated !!
