Yeah, devices have a current draw, which right now on the KF seems to be really low. (Can we get an official spec on it??) I've only been able to power a very small, low power (i.e. amperage rating) keyboard. USB 2.0 devices (without an additional hub) are a no-go. There's been some mumbling that the kernel is being over-protective on this issue (i.e. assuming it can't power something when actually it probably could, based on a conservative safety margin.) Be patient everyone ...
Having an official spec on the USB current would be good so we could know if we really are going to be stuck here or if maybe the kernel is being too conservative. But since Amazon didn't actually intend to host devices, I'd imagine it's possible this area of the device is really skimped out on. The fact it can even power devices is probably a grace of the OMAP board (or possibly Amazon toyed with the idea at some point.)
